A message from our CEO

Our doctors are referred to as many things, a house call doctor, a home doctor, a night doctor, an in-home GP, but they are truly doctors who are highly trained medical professionals that specialise in after-hours medicine and home treatments. By treating patients in their homes, hotels, caravans, or your designated visit address, they are committed to remaining focussed on you as the patient and in support of your regular GP.  They do not replace your regular GP, as continuity of care remains paramount for all your medical care.

COVID-19 is a scary time for all of us and Dial A Doctor remains committed to maintaining the highest quality care and hygiene practices to protect our patients, doctors, and staff. To ensure this remains during the COVID-19 pandemic, the following measures have been implemented to provide you and our team confidence:

  • All staff have daily temperatures checked and monitored;
  • Whilst conducting a visit to your home, the doctors may practice social distancing where it is deemed appropriate;
  • All vehicles and medical equipment are thoroughly sterilised before and after every shift.

You can contribute to the safety of our health workers by ensuring you and your family are conducting good hygienic practices, provide clear injury or illness symptoms and advise at time of your booking if the patient or anyone in the household has traveled overseas or been in contact with anyone known to have a case of CONVID-19 or been required to self-isolate due to overseas travel or as instructed by a medical professional.

For patients who are vulnerable and/or isolated, and may not be able to have a home visit doctor, from Monday 23rd March, Dial A Doctor will be conducting Telehealth (video and telephone) consultations, allowing you to still have access to quality after-hours health care during this period.

The Medicare Benefits Scheme (MBS) has created several item codes for doctors to conduct Telehealth consultations that are deemed vulnerable or isolated. You may be offered a Telehealth consultation by our Contact Centre team is you fall into one of the below criteria:

  • The patient or someone in the household has been diagnosed with COVID-19 virus but who is not a patient of a hospital; or
  • The patient or someone in the household has been required to isolate themselves in quarantine in accordance with home isolation guidance issued by the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC); or
  • The patient is considered more susceptible to the COVID-19 virus being a person who is:
    • at least 70 years old; or
    • at least 50 years old and is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent; or
    • is pregnant; or
    • is a parent of a child under 12 months; or
    • is already under treatment for chronic health conditions or is immune-compromised; or
  • The patient meets the current national triage protocol criteria for suspected COVID-19 infection.

Dial A Doctor remains committed to safely servicing our patients in the after-hours period. Look after yourselves and check the below links to remain informed on this developing situation.

Yours in health,

Mike Dale
